February 22 – First Sunday in Lent – Diaspora
Introducing the book of Esther set in the post exile diaspora or dispersion. Lent is a time of feel dislocated from God, at a distance. Equally it is just the right time to remember that God is never distant. The greatest temptation is to assume God is not present. During Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness, during Esther’s youth in Babylon, during our personal days of dark days grief or despair, God is very present. Though we are hungry, thirsty, in want remember the steadfast love of the Lord is present and active in your midst.
