In the May newsletter I wrote about discipleship, and I mentioned that I had started reading Discipleship that Fits, by Bobby Harrington and Alex Absalom. Well, I have read some more, and I am going to speak on the theme of Disciple Making on upcoming Sundays. Here’s what I am planning – a four part series.
Disciple Making: Humility Is Prerequisite
Disciple Making: Helping People Trust and Follow Jesus
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 & Matthew 28:18-20
Disciple Making: And Not Or Evangelizing
Disciple Making: Apprenticing Along the Way
Too many times, when we have talked about discipleship, it has sounded like a thing. Disciple Making leads us to activity, like living out our faith. Faith in Jesus is about being an active disciple of Jesus. Part of being a disciple is making other disciples.
Not that we do this on our own, we don’t! Yet, we all have a part to play along with what the Holy Spirit is already doing. Go ahead and read the Scripture passages for each message. You may want to read around the verses for context. If you’re really ambitious, you can choose to seek out other passages in the Bible that relate.
May God bless us as we together seek to understand, hopefully embrace, and maybe even have our lives stretched and expanded by God through Disciple Making.
